Debra Germany, Executive Director
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Mrs. Germany works as an administrator at Carnegie Mellon University. She is a graduate of Point Park University, with a B.S. in Business. Mrs. Germany is married and is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership at Geneva College.
Her life changed on July 9, 2001 when her only child, Raymond Germany, was murdered—shot seven times in the Hill District neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Through the death of her son, Mrs. Germany says, Divine Intervention Ministries was birthed in her spirit. With God as her guide, Mrs. Germany is determined to reach back and help as many people as she can to know that, with Christ, all things are possible. Mrs. Germany truly believes that if you have God in your life, you can do the impossible, reach the unreachable, and bear the unbearable.
Divine Intervention Ministries began by using billboards to bring attention to unsolved murders and find community solutions to crime. It also seeks to soothe grieving family members who have lost a loved one to violence.
In 2006 Divine Intervention Ministries changed its direction to focus on restoring the lives of incarcerated young men and at-risk youth and launched the IMPACT Program (Interceding Making Positive Actions Come Together).
Mrs. Germany is a very active member of the Central Baptist Church. She is the Director of Prison Ministries Services, a member of its Intercessory Prayer Ministry and operates a Gospel Music Ministry.
Mrs. Germany serves as a board member for the Center for Victims of Violence and Crime, a Pennsylvania Prison Society Convener for Somerset & Laurel Highland’s prisons, and a member of Wailing Women & Men Ministries in Pittsburgh.
Her awards have been numerous, including national recognition in Today’s Christian Magazine’s, Ordinary Heroes. WQED named her as one of Pittsburgh’s people changing lives, and the Allegheny Bar Association & Homer S. Brown Law Association honored Mrs. Germany for her dedicated work in the Black Community.
She received additional recognitions and awards from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter. Ivy Charitable Endowment of Pittsburgh chose Mrs. Germany as the recipient of the Mother of Distinction Award for her work in the community. She was also The Pennsylvania Prison Society 2008 Official Visitor of the Year Award recipient. The 2009 Recipient of the Church Woman of the Year Human Rights Award granted by the Church Women United.
The Center for Victims of Violence and Crime chose Mrs. Germany as the recipient of the 2010 Peace Partner Award for peace-building efforts in the community and helping to restore the lives of incarcerated adults and at-risk youth.
Mrs. Germany is a much sought-after popular speaker. She travels across Pennsylvania to speak to at-risk youth and incarcerated adults in boot camps and prisons, churches and public schools. Always, her goal is to bring the message of Hope in Christ—to Speak Life into Dead Places and Situations.
